Grangers, the leading aftercare brand for technical outdoor and sports clothing, has announced polar explorer and record-breaking long-distance skier, Ben Saunders, as its first brand ambassador.

Ben, who has used Grangers products to help keep him warm and dry on his expeditions, is now set to play an active role, testing Grangers products, in some of the harshest weather conditions on the planet.

The third person in history to ski solo to the North Pole, Ben holds the record for the longest solo Arctic journey by a Briton. In 2014, Ben also led The Scott Expedition, the longest human-powered polar journey in history and the first completion of the expedition that defeated Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton, a 105-day round-trip from Ross Island on the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back again.

Ben, a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, said: “Polar exploration remains one of the most demanding pursuits possible to undertake. There is rarely any margin for error and the consequences of mistakes or equipment failure can quickly prove fatal.

“I’ve used Grangers aftercare products for many years – since I was 11 years old in fact – and they have proved their worth time and again in the worst conditions imaginable.

“I am therefore delighted to be able to work in partnership with a British brand that I have trusted for three decades, whose environmental ethos and spirit of adventure is closely aligned with my own.”

The announcement comes as part of Grangers 80th anniversary programme which will see a number of other new ambassadors partner with the brand.

Karolina Jones, Grangers General Manager, said: “Ben is a one of the great adventurers of our time, showing courage, determination and humility throughout his expeditions. He is an inspirational character and I am delighted to welcome him on board.

“Ben’s extensive experience in polar travel and his understanding of what is required from technical clothing in extreme situations will prove to be a valuable asset as Grangers continues to develop its range of aftercare solutions.”
