November is traditionally a time for awards ceremonies, and this month, the LAAX ski resort has plenty to celebrate: the resort has received five awards in the past ten days. 2018 marks a new record year in awards for the Swiss resort. Accolades include the World’s Best Freestyle Resort award and the World’s Best Green Ski Hotel award. In the Best Ski Resort Study, LAAX won the Best Ski School and Best Snow Park categories for the Alps region. And to top off this fantastic run, Reto Gurtner, CEO of Weisse Arena Gruppe, was honoured with the highest award in Swiss tourism – the Milestone – for his life’s work.

The LAAX ski resort was awarded five titles in the last month alone. Reto Gurtner is justly proud of this achievement, and of his team: “The awards mean a great deal to me and proves that our innovative projects on the mountain and in the valley, like the GALAAXY mountain station and the Riders Hotel, are right on point and continue to surprise and delight our guests time and again. We will not stop in the future; we will continue to expand in our role shaping the future – because we are motivated to achieve more!”

Milestone honours Reto Gurtner for his life’s work

Last Tuesday, the htr hotel revue together with hotelleriesuisse awarded Reto Gurtner the Milestone – Switzerland’s highest award in the tourism industry, for his life’s work. The Milestone jury presented him with this award in recognition of his decades of involvement in the LAAX resort, as well as the constant drive for innovation. He introduced the concept of resort thinking in Switzerland, successfully implemented a wide range of innovations and planned many additional projects.

Three years in a row winner: LAAX is the world’s best freestyle resort

Every year, the World Ski Awards select the world’s best ski resorts in a decision reached by both a jury and a public vote. The event is part of the World Travel Awards, which are referred to as the “Oscars of the travel industry”. LAAX has received a number of awards at the ceremony in Kitzbühel in recent years. The resort is once again one of this year’s winners, with two accolades: World’s Best Freestyle Resort and, for the rocksresort, World’s Best Green Ski Hotel. The resort also achieved top-three placings in the Switzerland’s Best Ski Resort, World’s Best New Ski Hotel (for the Riders Hotel) and World’s Best Ski Company (for Weisse Arena Gruppe) categories.

46,000 guests have spoken: LAAX has the best ski school and the best snowpark in the Alps

LAAX also achieved two category wins at the Best Ski Resort Awards 2018 ceremony in Innsbruck. The LAAX School was voted best ski school in the Alps. It is one of the few ski schools not to belong to the Association of Swiss Ski Schools, instead working with a concept developed in-house featuring the successful Ami Sabi figure.

LAAX is now set to defend the title of Best Snow Park for the fifth time in a row, while in the Rent & Sevices category, second place went to LAAX Rental. The Best Ski Resort awards are made in a selection of different categories every two years in. The winners are chosen following a survey of around 46,000 direct customers across 55 Alpine ski resorts.
