One of China’s leading ski regions has reported that lift ticket sales exceeded a million for the first time last season
The Chongli district of Zhangjiakou city in north China’s Hebei Province has one of the most advanced ski area infrastructures in the country and will host many of the ski events at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Officials reported total lift ticket sales at the area’s seven ski resorts last season reached 1.07 million during a 101 day ski season.
The first skiing resort in Chongli opened in 1996 attracting a few thousand of China’s early skiers. Numbers reached 40,000 by 2003 and 200,000 a decade ago in 2009 with the number growing every year.
Between them the region’s seven ski areas today have 169 pistes with a combined length of 162 kilometres, served by a total of 67 ski lifts.
