The Compagnie du Mont-Blanc which operates the ski lifts and runs around Chamonix as well as many other leading French resorts has announced a €10m investment over the summer in upgrading the Plateau de Lognan at the resort’s Grands Montets ski area.
The old Marmottons and Tabé chairlifts have been removed and replaced by a fast, comfortable Leitner-built 6-seater chair, also named Tabé after its predecessor, which has the capacity to transport over 3000 persons per hour.
At the mid station of Lognan (1900m) a dedicated beginner’s area has been developed to include two drag–lifts and additional snow canons. The area will be accessible for all ages from early December to early May.
“This will be a welcome development for mixed ability groups or families skiing at the iconic Grands Montets, an area renowned more so for its glacier and off-piste skiing than for its gentle slopes,” said the resort’s press officer, Claire Burnet.
The new lifts were installed before a fire in September left the cable cars at Grands Montets unable to operate, however the resort is stressing its business as usual otherwise.
