A Hong Kong-based real estate development firm Metropoly is reported to have begun clearing 29,000 sqm in Niseko’s lower Hirafu with the aim of creating a new high-end plaza and walking street in the resort.
The project, named Aruku-zaka, is due to be completed in three phases, with the first opening in time for winter 2019-20, and final completion aimed at 2022. It will be linked to the resorts ski area with a connection to the Family run.
Up to 80 new shops are expected to open in the region which will also include cafés, restaurants, hotels and a variety of other services. There will also be an underground car park with space for up to 280 cars accessed via a side street.
Hyatt and Marriott are also reported to be progressing with separate development plans at the resort.
